Prime Minister Askar Mamin and EU Ambassadors discussed cooperation in economic recovery

Prime Minister Askar Mamin held a meeting with the heads of diplomatic missions of the European Union member states within the Dialogue Platform on Development of Investment Cooperation.

The head of government spoke about the measures taken by Kazakhstan to ensure the further development of the economy in the context of the global economic crisis and pandemic.

"The Strategic Development Plan of Kazakhstan until 2025 has been developed, which provides for measures to build up export-oriented industries with high added value in the manufacturing industry and agriculture, accelerate digitalization, strengthen the healthcare system, improve the quality and availability of infrastructure, and other aspects," said Mamin.

Mamin called on the ambassadors of the European Union for further open and active dialogue to promote trade, economic and investment cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU.

In turn, the ambassadors of the EU Sven-Olov Carlsson, Germany — Tilo Klinner, the Netherlands — Andre Carstens, who spoke at the meeting, noted the stability of the Kazakhstani economy and the consistency of anti-crisis measures taken by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The parties discussed the prospects for overcoming the consequences of the pandemic and cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union on economic recovery.

The issues of cooperation in health care, the development of the green economy and the fight against climate change, the implementation of joint investment projects in the fields of the agro-industrial complex, manufacturing industry, transport, energy, infrastructure construction were considered.

Particular attention was paid to the comprehensive implementation of the effective from March 1, 2020, Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreements between Kazakhstan and the EU.

The document covers 29 areas of activity, including trade, investment, innovation and infrastructure development. The meeting was attended by members of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the management of NCE Atameken, JSC NC Kazakh Invest, NMH Baiterek, NMH KazAgro, ambassadors of the European Union, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Romania, Estonia, Poland, Sweden, Italy, Slovakia, Spain, Lithuania, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Bulgaria, Finland, Hungary, France, representatives of Portugal, Austria, Latvia and others.

The EU is one of the key investors and the largest trading partner of Kazakhstan. Trade turnover for 8 months of this year amounted to $15.5 billion.
